Continuing Education: Business Management

Continuing Education for General Contractors classes to be held virtually via Zoom. You can register for full day (8 hours) as well as morning and/or afternoon session (4 hours).
MORNING SESSION: 8:00 am – 12:15 pm
2020 NCLBGC Mandatory CE Course ( 2 hr)
The NC Licensing Board for General Contractor’s 2020 mandatory course explains the statutes and regulations in which qualifiers and licensees must comply. Students will review current law, regulations, rules and statutory terminology used by the NCLBGC. Students will also participate in a practical exercise in the application of knowledge they learned and understood during the class. This course satisfies the two-hour mandatory course requirement for 2020.
Best Hiring Practices for the Construction Industry ( 2 hr )
It is often said that employees can make you, or break you. This has never been truer than it is today. Since the Great Recession, we have been trying to staff our companies in the midst of a severe labor shortage; while our experienced leaders are retiring, the next generation (Gen Y) only wants to work in IT (Information Technology). In today’s class, we are going to learn to: •Advertise right for the position •Screen the applicants to save time •Set the appropriate expectations •Train the new hire for optimal performance
Afternoon Session: 1:30 – 5:30 pm
Take-off to Higher Profits ( 4 hr )
This course will focus on the “nitty gritty” techniques for accurate and efficient quantity material and labor take-offs. Topics will cover how to create more accurate estimates in a more timely manner and some rules of thumb for various quantity take offs in residential construction.

Effective this year, NC general contractors are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education to renew their license in 2021. There is a 2-hour mandatory course along with 6 hours of electives required. We are offering a variety of topics for the elective courses, all of which will be NC Builder Institute (NCBI) courses.
