The Association’s Annual Awards were presented on Thursday, February 23, 2017. United States Congressman Mark Walker was our keynote guest discussing issues impacting the building and real estate industry, our community and state.
The following individuals and organizations were recognized for their contributions to the Association, the community and the building industry.
Eugene Gulledge Award
The Eugene Gulledge Award for Distinguished Service is the highest honor given by the Builders Association. It is named in honor of Eugene Gulledge who founded the Greensboro Builders Association sixty years ago. This award recognizes continuous, outstanding contributions to the Builders Association and the community at large over a long period of time.
Jim Sandknop, Community Housing Solutions was awarded the 2016 Gulledge Award. Having been involved in the building industry for the past 30 years, Jim has served in a variety of leadership positions, including GBA President in 2014 and continues to serve our Association as an Ambassador and active committee member. Jim is highly regarded by his peers for his giving spirit, serving those in need within our community and beyond.
Builder Member of the Year
Joan Swift, SwiftCreek Construction was awarded the 2016 Builder Member of the Year Award. Joan has served on the GBA Board of Directors for several years in a variety of roles. She has been an active member of the Triad Green Building Council, Builders Council, NCHBA, TREBIC and has served on one of the Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat building teams. Joan is an advocate for continuing education, holding numerous national and state designations including GMB; CGP; CAPS; CSP; ABR; GRI; and many more. Joan also is an active Realtor, currently serving this year as president of the High Point Regional Association of Realtors.
Associate Member of the Year
Char-Lee Smith, McLean Mortgage was awarded the 2016 Associate Member of the Year Award. Char-Lee has been involved in our Association and the mortgage industry for more than 30 years. For the past two years, she has chaired our Membership Committee, and currently serves as an Associate Director on the GBA Board of Directors.
Since 1995, GBA has presented the Kavanagh Cup award recognizing individuals and/or organizations for their efforts in strengthening affordable housing in Guilford County. The 2016 Kavanagh Cup was presented to Phil Barbee, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro for his work over the years to help improve affordable housing in our community.
Scott Allred, Precept Construction was presented the 2016 Lewis Award for utilizing the most Association members in the construction of a Parade home, working with more than 37 Associate members.
Leticia Nieto, Ilan, Inc. was presented the 2016 Membership Recruiter of the Year award for recruiting the most new members this past year.
