It is with sadness to share that long-time member of the Greensboro Builders Association – Sandy Anderson Groat – died at the age of 79 this week. Sandra was a pioneer in the home building business, being one of the first women home builders in Greensboro. She founded Sandra Anderson Builders in 1979, a business that thrived for almost thirty years. Her dedication to the industry led her to serve as the President of the Greensboro Builders Association in 1997 and serve on the City Council, where she also held the position of Mayor Pro Tem. Sandra was the first recipient of the Kavanagh Cup in 1995 for her commitment to affordable housing. She was also recognized as Builder Member of the Year in 1997 and received our highest honor, the Euguene Gulledge Award, in 2005.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24 from 10:00-11:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church (438 W Friendly Ave, Greensboro). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at the same location. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro and Beacon Place in memory of Sandra Anderson Groat.
